UPCOMING EVENTS: NEW:SCHOOL

Join us for NEW:SCHOOL, a retro concert looking back at some of our favourite pieces from our concerts to date. Polycoro, the dynamic Winnipeg-based choir, is celebrating nearly a decade of music-making with a special program that features a diverse range of repertoire.

Led by Artistic Director John Wiens, Polycoro has always embraced challenges and new ways of thinking and creating, and has repeated less than 90 minutes of music over its entire existence. This program is a chance to revisit some of the gems that have helped shape Polycoro's identity and develop their artistry.

Featuring repertoire by Scott Reimer, Neil Weisensel, Amy Brandon, and even J.S. Bach, this concert has something for everybody. The program includes music that is little known and rarely performed in Manitoba, such as Nilo Alcala’s "Papanok a Lakitan" and Vivian Fung’s "Sanci Kuni," as well as Polycoro favourites like Ryan Cayabyab’s "Anima Christi" and Haraldur Sveinbjornsson’s "Memento Mei."

The concert will feature performances by Polycoro's talented roster of singers, including Merina Dobson-Perry, Zohreh Gervais, Annabelle Hollander, Joanna Leopp-Thiessen, Sara Clefstad, Carlie Fehr, Sarah Hall, Josiah Brubacher, PJ Buchan, Lorenz Sarrondo, and Nolan Kehler.

Don't miss this chance to hear something you might have missed the first time around. Join Polycoro for a musical journey that explores nine years of music that bears repeating. We absolutely refuse to sing music we think isn’t good to listen to, so you can be assured that this program will engage and satisfy performers, audiences, and composers alike.

Only in concert for three days, make sure to get your tickets now for NEW:SCHOOL, and experience the unique sound and artistic vision of Polycoro.

VIDEO PROJECTS

Light of a Clear Blue Morning

A Laina Brown / Scott Reimer / Polycoro collaboration

“Everything’s gonna be alright. It’ll be okay.”

When we released this video, we were repeating this to ourselves, to our families, our neighbours and friends for sixteen months.

We made plans and cancelled them over and over. Postponed. Again. We missed births, deaths, weddings, and dessert recommendations from our favourite waiter. Everything is different now. But It’ll be okay. Now we really know how much we need each other.

In the Bleak Midwinter

A Laina Brown / Scott Reimer / Polycoro collaboration

Since we haven't been able to sing for 9 months,
we decided to create a virtual choir by recording singers one-by-one.

In 2020, we were longing to share our voices in person, and wished the world peace and love through this adapted classic.

It was our way of sending the world a bit of love in a time of waiting.

Nunc Dimittis

A Laina Brown / Polycoro collaboration

The Nunc Dimittis: reflecting the moments before, during and after a long period of waiting. Simeon is old, moving with difficulty, but devoted to his wish. Every day he comes to the same spot and waits, hoping to see something important come to fruition.

In the distance, he sees what he was waiting for. His heart begins to sing the words he has been contemplating for many years: “Lord, let me now depart in peace… My eyes have seen what you have prepared… A light to bring us out of darkness.”
